We the Media…

July 11th, 2007

This article basically informs the reader of the “New Media.” Instead of information being digested by journalist and regurgitated to the public, it is now interactive. Now the everyday person can pick and choose what information they want to hear and who they want to hear it from. Most importantly, they now can create their own news by blogging and writing in Wikipedia.  Although the author generally remains neutral when referring to the new trend, he seems to slightly support the information sharing renaissance.  He does though remind readers that there still is a main concern for truth in this new media because it can be created by an unskilled or unknowledgeable person.

One aspect of this digital media revolution that the author touched on that I didn’t even think of was the ebay stores. Some companies don’t even advertise in newspapers because they simply sell on ebay. This method has a negative effect. With those proprietors not supporting the newspapers by advertising, the newspapers are in turn losing money.  Expanding on that notion; companies are now advertising online. Does that mean print new material will become archaic?

All in all I feel that the author was knowledgeable about the subject and it was a sound article in respect to information and organization. He uses a variety of examples that really help put his whole point in perspective; times are changing and with this change comes advantages and disadvantages.

Mirror Mirror….

July 9th, 2007

Although there is some truth in this article I do feel that it is not entirely true. I feel that the article was mor persuasive than factual. It made the youth of today seem overly self-confident and self indulged. Personally I feel that a lot of kids just have nothing better to do so they post on their blogs and hang out online purely for entertainment.  As for YOUTUBE I have never even been on the site, nor seen any of the videos the article tells of.  The claim that everyone wants to be famous in their own way is truly dependent on that person. I don’t even have a myspace because I think the concept is weird. If I want to tell someone about my day or anything new in my life, I’ll be traditional and invite them over or call them on the phone.

As for those who are stuck in the growing egotistical movement. I feel bad for them. For most of there dreams will only lead to mere disillusionment.
