Are you really famous??

Thursday, August 30th, 2007

I thought the arguement is able to be backed up. I actually kind of agree with what the author was saying. Everyone is looking for their own 15 minutes of fame, even though they know it’s not going to last and they’re not going to be a famous movie star someday just by posting a YouTube clip or having the most friends on MySpace for a day. I thought the angle about how people are able to change their personae on the net and no one will ever know the real them, until they’re exposed was really cool. Plus, this is totally true. Anyone could post something or pretend like they are someone else on the internet. There is nothing stopping old scary men from pretending they are someone else trying to talk to young girls. I thought the most interesting part of the whole post was when the author pointed out that 50% of kids under the age of 12 think that it’s part of “American Dream” to be famous or a movie star. Kids these days have a warped sense of what really is going to happen in normal average American’s lives. People keep telling them they can be whatever they want to be, when in reality this may not be the case, though they should strive for their dreams.

My life….my computer.

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

Computers and other “new age” technology play a huge part of my life. I’m basically on my computer 24/7. Blog/chat room style sites such as MySpace and Facebook are my addiction. I can’t go a day without checking them at least twice. I also have to have AIM. For some reason, adolescents in today’s society find it necessary to talk to their friends in at least 4 different ways: talking on their cell phone, using text messages, using a program like AIM or MSN Instant Messenger, and MySpace or Facebook. I know I can’t go anywhere without having my phone with me. I feel incomplete in some way, like it has to be attached to my hip or something. Basically, being able to communicate with my friends or any other person for that matter is the most important thing for me I suppose. And the computer allows me to do so. For instance, I messed my schedule up yesterday, causing me to miss my classes, now I have to use the computer today to email the professors about my stupid mistake. There, yet again, is another way I use my computer to talk to people.
