Revision process story

12 12 2007

when i first started working on my paper i wrote a draft that filled the requirement. it didnt make a whole lot of sense, wasnt organized well, and just wasnt that well put together. but i had words on paper, a whole lot of words on paper. i believe myself, that from that point on is the easy part. refining your draft to eventually you final, polished essay. so there i was with a big p-o-s. wondering what my first move was going to be. should i grammaticly go through and make improvements. or should i look at the big picture and try and see how i can change the organization of the whole draft. i choose to do everything at once. well not literally but eventually i looked at all the points. i decided to first look at the draft as a whole because the spelling errors and such is always going to be there for me to come back to. so there i was basically changing the gut of my essay, the insides are just scrambling around. trying to make everything just fit like a big puzzle with not outline of where pieces should go. i think i found an order that is useful and make sense. as you can see with my posted pages i have gone through many drafts. from one to the next i made major changes. it was a long road trying to add more souces here and there. just trying to make my essay the best it could be. now looking at my final essay and comparing it to my first draft, you would never think that amount of revision was possible but dont worry it is….. i have done it.

Virtual rape, crime?

12 12 2007

iThe open question i found is this article would be when is rape, rape? In the physical world this is not a question, the moment that someone takes advantage of you, thats rape. But with this whole new world out there on the web, so when does the perpetrator cross the line?n this piece, Regina Lynn speaks about being virtually rape or sexually harassed online. although it can be very traumatic, in no way is it comparable to the actual physical thing happening. many people in the online communites believe that it can be a crime is and is as close as possible to the real thing.
the question of whether or not virtual rape is a crime is a tough question to answer. i believe it is wrong, and traumatic. people should never do it or let someone do it to them. there is a difference of letting it happen to you and when you have no control of it happening. i believe that any online abuse should be considered a crime. it may not be as harsh of a crime but a crime no less.

Virtual Communities

In his essay Rheingold has explained to us why online bulletin boards are so popular. humans are a social animal, so the ability to have conversations and bond with people without ever living your room is really attractive. This essay goes into great detail and i believe that is because of Rheingold’s great indepth knowledge of the topic. but this article has weak points as well. for one the informality of the whole essay makes it less persuasive kind of like its just one more of his blog posts.

medium is the massage

even with being written almost a half century ago “the medium is the massage” Marshall Mcluhan comes as close as anybody else could have come to predicting how the society is today. its pretty clear what kind of world mcluhan sees is gonna happen, a world connected. a “global village” he calls it. with everything in our society being so advanced cellphones, computers, and the internet, it brings a feeling of connectivity. one of the best way about the book is how he tells his message mostly through pictures. you dont even know it but he is making look loner and think about the messages because of the pictures.

“mirror, mirror on the web”

Lakshmi Chaudhry’s article gave us a peek at what as really happen with the web. and how it as changed our society. chaudhry main arguement i believe is how the web as made us less moral and more involved with ourselves then our fellow man. many people believe that you should think that you are special. but with this article chaudhry shows us that kids are almost to self-coinfedated.

reflection of digital dimension

7 12 2007

I really truly believe that the way this class was taught is the way that future classes will be taught. I can see that in the future there will be computers in every class and that we will be learning off them. I believe this because everyday in the real world companies and using computers more and more. In order for the next generation to feel comfortable with their biggest tool, schools should use computers as much as possible. Also with the narrow minded and dogmatic views of Americans about the world, the internet can really open things up and connect us to an abundance of culture and people. The quantity that we can learn for the internet and computers as no boundaries. I believe that the digital aspect helped abundantly, you can research and write without ever leaving your computer chair. I am not sure whether or not I will be using these exact tools but I will definitely with digital culture as a aspect of my future endeavors. I would for sure recommend this course to one of my friends. If you ever forget to get the homework or you miss class all you have to do is go online and look at the assignment. It makes class that much more flexible. The only change I would make to the course is lighten up with the amount of blog post. I don’t really see what you get out of it by posting every night. For sure we should do maybe twice a week but with having this class three times a week and have you have us blog every night I think is a bit unnecessary, but then again you’re the teacher. Haha.

Reflection on Draft Revision

7 12 2007

When most people talk about revision they talk about rewording things here and there, or changing a few words or so. When I revise, I look at the whole paper and completly change things up. With my revision process, with every different draft I made a significant change weather it was changing ordering of paragraphs and sentences throughout the whole paper or completely taking whole sections of my paper out. For some reason I always felt like there was a mass amount that I should be changing. i feel that it is better this way because you are really changing it up, and making sure your sayin what you want to.

Reflection on drafting step

5 12 2007

For me personally i have a hard time motivating myself to get work done before the last minute. So having the draft due like almost a month before the final was due was good for me. I feel as if once i get the major hunk down it is a lot easier for me to finish and edit it to the final. With having the draft due that early i was forced to really get into my topic and really look at it. for the last month and a half i was forced to read up on every bit of facebook data i could get my hands on. I choose my topic on something i think i would be interested in, but when i actually started to research i really got into it. I reallly got committed to researching because i knew the draft was due early. So i finished the majority of my paper about a month ago. The rest of it has been the easy part, just revision. With other classes they have the draft due a week or so before the final is due and that makes me slack off and push it off.

i am going to look at all the feedback i will get. then i will read through my oringinal draft again and see what i think about the feedback. i will add the ones i agree with the see how long my paper is. if i need more i will see where i can add to it.
