The part of the digital culture that is attractive to research is the alarming hours that people spend on facebook instead of doing things that would be more productive. The relevant people with this theme are of course facebook users, but some others are employers, colleges, and the facebook designers. The main focus of my research will be the users themselves but it is also important to look at what the employers and colleges of facebook users think about how much time the users are on it, and at what they could be doing instead. Many employers now look up and see if their prospect employee has a facebook and see what it is on it. If the future or current employee has photos of partying on it or does not represent themselves in the way the company expects them too, they might face some serious consequences or fails to get the job. It is the same story with some colleges, but a wrinkle is that some colleges actually try to investigate underage drinking and other crimes that have photos or conversations about it on facebook, though this does not happen often it is still a danger. What are some negative affects of facebook over usage with regards to college students and people in the work place? I am interested in this question partly because I think I am on facebook entirely too much, there are better things I could be doing with my time. By looking at some of the consequences I might be able to see what could happen to me if I keep up with this or it becomes worse. The facebook ties into the digital culture theme because many of America’s young people are on it; facebook makes the world just a little bit smaller. It connects young people from all points in the U.S. together.

Real Life: Facebook addiction

I.) Abstract
On the internet now-a-days there are a lot of sites that people visit. Some people even get addicted to certain sites; it is a very destructive habit and can lead to some very negative consequences. Facebook is one of those sites, people waste away at the site, surfing friends profile instead of studying or working. Many college students are obsessed with how many people are the “friends” or how many “wall posts”. Even in the work place people are on it, many companies now are cracking down on it.

II.) Introduction
The part of the digital culture that is attractive to research is the alarming hours that people spend on facebook instead of doing things that would be more productive. The relevant people with this theme are of course facebook users, but some others are employers, colleges, and the facebook designers. The main point of research will be the users themselves but it is also important to look at what the employers and colleges of facebook users think about how much time the users are on it, and at what they could be doing instead. Many employers now look up and see if their prospect employee has a facebook and see what it is on it, if they have drunken photos on it and how they present themselves. It is the same story with some colleges, but a wrinkle is that the colleges actually try to investigate underage drinking and other crimes that have photos or conversations about it on facebook. What are some negative affects of facebook addiction with regards to college students and people in the work place? I am interested in this question partly because I think I am addicted to facebook some what. By looking at some of the consequences I might be able to see what could happen to me if my addiction becomes worse. The facebook ties into the digital culture theme because many of America’s young people are on it; facebook makes the world just a little bit smaller. It connects young people from all points in the U.S. together.

surveying

17 10 2007

my idea for a field work proposal would be to take a survey of iup students traveling into the cafe. and ask them question about the facebook usage. i wont ask any open question because they prolly wont answer or have time to, so i will just ask yes or no question.
example:
1.) how many hours a day are you on facebook?
2.) when procrastinating do you go on facebook?
3.) during the time you should be doin homework are you facebooking?

4
It is an indirect connection. It deals with the consequences of facebook addiction rather then the addiction itself.

5
It has a very strong argument with a lot of fact. It has some real life instants of people who had to deal with consequences with their employer.

3
This seams to be a blog but might be a actually news article.

This is a very useful source because it has everything to do with my question. This comes straight from the horse’s mouth.

5
This article has first hand accounts of what happens when students get addicted to facebook.

5
This source is very credible, who better to talk about it then the people who use it all the time. It was a well researched unbiased piece of reporting.
